What our Parents & Carers Say

I stopped crying when my daughter came to this school. I used to drop her off at mainstream at 9am and be called to pick her up at quarter to ten and I would cry

Merry Christmas Beormund Primary School 2021

A Warm Welcome

Welcome to the website of Beormund Primary school. We are a full time, special needs setting for children with social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH). Our children often find difficulty regulating their emotions, processing language and expectations, adhering to social norms, building relationships and verbalising how they think and feel. Complex emotions often manifest in challenging behaviours – behaviours are, after all, a form of communication.

Mental health comes in its different forms and resilience is displayed in a variety of ways – something our children have in abundance. Many of our children have experienced a plethora of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) which impact on their emotional wellbeing, how they view the world and their responses to it. As a staff team we look beyond the behaviours displayed and then attempt to establish trends, patterns and triggers as we aim to better understand each child.

Our children arrive with huge barriers to learning. Having been excluded from mainstream settings, some often arrive with a disassociation to education, a mistrust of adults and low self esteem. It is for us, collectively as a school team, to empower our children to hold a positive view of themselves and reignite their love of learning.

Beormund is a small, nurturing and therapeutic provision where children are taught in small classes of no more than 8.
Our teachers provide fun, engaging, personalised, creative, purposeful and challenging learning experiences which draw upon different (Visual, Auditory & Kinaesthetic) learning styles. We teach the breadth and depth of the National Curriculum and hold the same aspirations as our mainstream colleagues – for our children to make accelerated levels of progress and to meet, or even exceed, Age Related Expectations (ARE).

Beyond the classroom we have a team of therapists to nurture and support the children where they are able to explore their trauma and attachment needs through art therapy, dramatherapy, counselling, ELSA (Emotional Litescy) and Lego Therapy. All but three children  have Speech Language and Communication Needs highlighted in their EHCP and this is addressed through small group, 1:1 or whole class Speech & Language sessions.

My name is Lisa Noel and am proud to be the Headteacher of this unique school. I have worked at Beormund since 2008 and have a passion for children who have been misrepresented and often misunderstood. I work alongside an inspirational staff team who are committed to improving the life chances of vulnerable children. They are dedicated, resilient, compassionate, fun, aspirational and driven. It’s a school filled with vibrant, intelligent, creative, challenging, kind, witty and resilient children who never fail to make you smile. It’s a setting where’s no two days are ever the same. Welcome. . .
