Beormund Primary School

A Warm Welcome

Welcome to the website of Beormund Primary school. We are a full time, special needs setting for children with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. Our children often find difficulty regulating their emotions, processing language and expectations, adhering to social norms, building relationships and verbalising how they think and feel. Complex emotions often manifest in behaviours that challenge – behaviours are, after all, a form of communication.

Many of our children have been impacted from Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) which affect how they view the world and their responses to it. As a staff team of Emotionally Available Adults our role is to remain curious and look beyond the behaviours displayed. As part of our reflective practice we track to establish trends, patterns and triggers as we aim to better understand each child.

Having been suspended or excluded from, often more than one mainstream setting, our children arrive with a disassociation to education, a mistrust of adults and low self-esteem. It is for us, collectively as a school team, to empower our children to hold a positive view of themselves in order to take risks and reignite their love of learning.

Beormund is a small, nurturing and therapeutic provision where children are taught in small classes around 8 children. Our teachers provide fun, engaging, personalised, creative, purposeful and challenging learning experiences which draw upon different (Visual, Auditory & Kinaesthetic) learning styles. We teach the breadth and depth of the National Curriculum and hold the same aspirations as our mainstream colleagues – for our children to make accelerated levels of progress and to meet, or even exceed, Age Related Expectations (ARE).

Beyond the classroom we have a team of therapists to nurture and support the children where they are able to explore their thoughts and feelings through art therapy, Music therapy, Attachment Time and/or ELSA sessions. Almost all our children arrive with Speech Language and Communication Needs highlighted in their EHCP and this is addressed through small group, 1:1 or whole class Lego Therapy sessions.

My name is Lisa Noel and am proud to be the Headteacher of this unique school. I have worked at Beormund since 2008 and have a passion for children who have been misrepresented and often misunderstood. I work alongside and lead an inspirational staff team who are committed to improving the life chances of vulnerable children. They are dedicated, resilient, compassionate, fun, aspirational and driven. Beormund is a school filled with vibrant, intelligent, creative, challenging, kind, witty and resilient children who never fail to make you smile. It’s a setting where’s no two days are ever the same. Welcome. . .
